BestSolv® 71IPA – 3M™ Novec™ 71IPA Replacement Fluid
Realizing our customers must transition away from 3M™ Novec™ 71IPA, Best Technology offers BestSolv® 71IPA and BestSolv® Lima as Novec™ 71IPA alternatives. BestSolv® 71IPA solvent fluid is formulated as a same-molecule, drop-in 3M™ Novec™ 71IPA replacement fluid based on the 3M™ announcement of the Novec™ fluid phase out in 2022.
As customers prepare to transition away from 3M™ Novec™ 71IPA, many validation and procurement records continue to reference 3M™ 71IPA requirements tied to existing vapor degreasing and light-duty cleaning processes.

What is BestSolv® 71IPA Engineered Fluid?
BestSolv® 71IPA is an azeotropic blend designed for light-duty cleaning or vapor degreasing of a wide variety of materials, including metals, glass, hard plastics and some elastomers. BestSolv® 71IPA is especially useful where the cleaning effectiveness of isopropanol is desired, without the fire hazard risk. BestSolv® 71IPA is chemically identical to the soon-to-be-discontinued 3M™ Novec™ 71IPA.
In legacy technical literature, this chemistry may also appear as 3M™ HFE 71IPA or 71IPA fluid, both of which refer to the same baseline performance characteristics originally established by 3M™ Novec™ 71IPA.

The constant vapor and liquid composition of BestSolv® 71IPA at its boiling point means it can be used in a wide range of vapor degreasers. The high materials compatibility and effective cleaning make BestSolv® 71IPA particularly useful for cleaning medical device parts, electronic components, optical lenses and aerospace parts during production.
BestSolv® 71IPA Chemical Composition
The chemical composition of BestSolv® 71IPA consists of a hydrofluoroether (HFE) blend of BestSolv® 7100 with isopropanol.
| Name | Alternate Names | Chemical Formula | CAS Number |
| HFE7100 | methoxy-nonafluorobutane methyl nonafluoroisobutyl ether | C4F9OCH3 | CAS 163702-08-7 |
| Isopropanol | Isopropyl Alcohol IPA | C3H8O | CAS 67-63-0 |

High-Purity Single Isomer HFE Component
- Higher HFE Chemical Consistency: High-Purity Single-Isomer HFE Component – The HFE portion of this blend uses a high-purity single isomer, eliminating isomer ratio drift and supporting consistent lot-to-lot process performance.
- Compliant HFE Synthesis: The HFE component is produced via targeted catalysis, eliminating the generation of long-chain PFAS byproducts associated with legacy electrochemical fluorination (ECF) processes.
- Drop-In Process Continuity: The HFE portion contains the primary isomer of legacy HFE fluids and is formulated to provide comparable physical and process characteristics without requiring equipment redesign.
BestSolv® 71IPA Applications
BestSolv® 71IPA Engineered Fluid is suitable for electronics and precision cleaning tasks, including immersion cleaning and vapor degreasing applications. The isopropanol in BestSolv® 71IPA provides enhanced removal of ionic contaminants.

As a solvent cleaner, BestSolv® 71IPA is ideal for light-duty cleaning and vapor degreasing tasks. Because of its azeotropic properties, BestSolv® 71IPA has the chemical stability needed for use with vapor degreasers.
BestSolv® 71IPA can effectively remove many types of soils, including light oils, fluoro lubes, particulates, fingerprints, fluoro greases and ionic soils, without leaving residue.
The compatibility of BestSolv® 71IPA with sensitive plastics such as polycarbonate and PMMA makes it useful for cleaning assemblies with many composite materials. Low surface tension allows BestSolv® 71IPA to clean hard-to-reach areas in complex parts thoroughly.
Example applications of BestSolv® 71IPA include:
- Solvent cleaning, rinsing and drying
- Immersion cleaning for removal of light oils, fingerprints and particulates
- Cleaning of electronic components and optical lenses
- Removal of ionic contaminants
- Precision cleaning in a vapor degreaser
